According to the dictionary, regurgitate is to repeat after memorization. Or if we look at the literal definition: regurgitate is to eject the contents of the stomach through the mouth.
Neither sound too appealing.
Learning, on the other hand, is the process of understanding something new. If you learn something, it is much more likely to stay with you. If you regurgitate something, you are more likely to soon forget whatever you memorized (after all, you never really understood it anyways).
Some learning tips:
- Take turns teaching concepts, math problems, or issues to each other in a study group. If you are by yourself, just teach out loud.
- Discuss concepts, math problems, or issues in a study group, and try to provide counter-arguments or counter-examples.
- Create your own math problems, test questions, or examples.
- Make connections between concepts, math problems, and issues across chapters, or even across courses.
- Create a visual diagram that explains a concept, math problem, or issue.
By learning the course material, and not just regurgitating it, you will not only get much more out of the course, but will also do better on assignments and tests.
