Another Strateogy for affective reading that I find useful is the ability to logically understand the point or statement by the author is inductive and deductive reasoning. If you analyze the premise's and conclusion the author is giving you, you can understand the context more. Also, Familiarizing yourself with logical fallacies wouldn't be such a bad thing as well.
